The Next Step - Introduction to Beadmaking: Part 2

This workshop answers one of the following questions for beginning lampworkers:

I've taken the first class, now what?I took the Intro Class but it's been a while since I'€™ve flameworked“ is there a class for that?

If you've asked yourself either of those questions, well then this class is for you. If it has been a while since you've been on the torch I highly recommend the Back to the Basics class being taught or a private lesson to get you back on track.

This workshop taught over 4 weeks, will go over all the basics from the Intro class and reinforce them. Then we'll go on to explore and practice new techniques. Emphasis will be on good skills, precise dot placement, reading the heat of a bead, the general principles of glass and how they relate to beadmaking, and of course student's choice. (Student'€™s choice is you tell me what you'd like to either review or learn€“ and we will try to address all the student requests by the end of the workshop if at all possible). By the end of the workshop, you should have a strong handle on basic techniques and have learned a number of new ways to create interesting and more complex designs.

Week 1: Review and practice of basic beadmaking including: reading the heat of glass, making a good round bead, fixing the wonks, dot placement, stringer placement, efficient bead making, and beginning the harlequin beads

Week 2: Harlequin twists and raking a long bead.

Week 3: Encasing: stringer, a small bead, a long bead.

Week 4: Complex twisty. We will look at Hollows or Off mandrel work.

This workshop will be 2 hours instruction each week, taught over consecutive weeks and 1 hour of studio time at the end of each class.
